Gulfside Regional Hospice
Proud To Be Part of the We Honor Veterans Program

We Honor Veterans It may surprise many people to learn that 25 percent of those who die every year in the United States are veterans. To help provide care and support that reflects the important contributions made by these men and women, Gulfside Regional Hospice has joined the We Honor Veterans program, a pioneering campaign developed by the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization in collaboration with the Department of Veterans Affairs.

"Gulfside Regional Hospice is proud to support the We Honor Veterans by providing specialized hospice care to Pasco County veterans," said Linda Ward, Gulfside's president and CEO.

"Gulfside strives to serve our communities with individualized care that is culturally and socially sensitive and tailored to individual needs. New training and educational programs to aid in our intelligent and compassionate service to veterans will advance our best practices and help ensure that Gulfside appropriately manages end-of-life care for veterans that we serve."

In order to be accepted into the We Honor Veterans program, Gulfside Regional Hospice had to meet stringent requirements that will improve care to veterans. The We Honor Veterans campaign provides tiered recognition to organizations that demonstrate a systematic commitment to improving care for veterans. Gulfside Regional Hospice will integrate best practices for providing end-of-life care to veterans by recognizing their unique needs that are specifically related to a veterans' military service, combat experience or other traumatic events.

"Hospices are serving veterans but often aren't aware of that person's service in the armed forces," said J. Donald Schumacher, NHPCO president and CEO. "Through We Honor Veterans, we are taking a giant step forward in helping hospice and palliative care providers understand and serve veterans more effectively and develop and deploy the necessary skills to fulfill our mission to serve these men and women with the dignity they deserve."
